WISPA Appreciates HEROES Act Goal to Keep Americans Connected through the Pandemic

Today, key Majority Members in the House of Representatives released the HEROES Act, an emergency appropriations bill designed to help Americans meet the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Within the 1815-page bill exist numerous provisions pertaining to the deployment and maintenance of broadband connectivity.  The following statement may be attributed to Christina Mason, VP of Government Affairs for WISPA:
Washington, DC, May 12, 2020 – WISPA appreciates the scope of the HEROES Act, especially as it pertains to keeping families hit hardest by the pandemic online, connected and safe.  We signed the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected pledge, as well as its extension, and the support noted in the Act will go far to ensure all Americans remain connected through the duration of the pandemic.
We look forward to working with the FCC in implementing the Act should it become law, creating a flexible and sufficient framework which helps keep small ISPs on the frontlines of this battle as they support those who call for their service.
WISPA’s approximately 850 members are composed of fixed Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and the industry that supports fixed wireless broadband, including equipment suppliers, support services, and other components needed to run a successful business. Our members, and WISPs, in general, provide broadband access to over 6 million residential and business customers, often in exclusively rural areas.
