WISPA Letter to President-elect Joe Biden on His First 100 Days and beyond

Washington, DC, December 16, 2020 – WISPA sent a letter today congratulating President-elect Joe Biden on his election to the highest office in the land – one which also provides a roadmap, outlining the ways the fixed wireless industry can continue to rapidly deploy to unserved communities throughout the final months of this pandemic and beyond.
Notes Claude Aiken, President and CEO of WISPA:
“WISPA and our members are laser-focused on helping the nation rise from the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, an effort that will rightly occupy the lion’s share of your efforts during the first 100 days of your presidency. In the early days of the pandemic, they were the first ISPs on the ground, connecting unserved communities to high-speed internet virtually overnight. And since then, they have been working overtime to help students learn virtually, parents work from home, and grandparents access telehealth services. They are proud to serve on the frontlines of this pandemic because one thing remains clear: Americans without access need broadband connectivity and they need it now, not a decade from now.
“We stand ready to help accomplish that goal. Boosting access to spectrum and critical infrastructure on terms that make sense to small innovators, right-sizing regulations for those least able to shoulder them and ensuring that any subsidies for providers put startups on the same playing field as incumbents, will ensure that small businesses that are best positioned to help, are able to do so…”

Aiken believes this policy focus will provide immediate connectivity relief to working families, small businesses, and at-risk communities, putting America on a path to future growth and prosperity.  "Our industry is rapidly evolving, moving at light-speed with the advance of technology to grow and deploy broadband to areas where it has never existed and compete in areas where a competitive option was never available," wrote Aiken, adding "We are excited to begin working with you and your Administration to make your Presidency a success for all Americans."
