WISPA Commends Senate Republicans' Broadband Infrastructure Proposal
Washington, DC, April 22, 2021 – WISPA commends Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Roger Wicker (R-MS), John Barrasso (R-WY) and Pat Toomey (R-PA) for a new Republican proposal to update America’s infrastructure. Though details are pending, that proposal includes $65 billion of additional spending to boost the roll-out of broadband throughout America.
Broadband plays an integral role in helping Americans stay safe, connected and living better, more fruitful lives. Focusing on getting broadband out ubiquitously, to all no matter where they live or their ability to afford it, fulfills Congress’ duty to the American people, a goal first evinced in the Communications Act of 1934. WISPs are on the front lines of delivering broadband communications solutions to the hardest to reach and isolated parts of rural and urban America. We look forward to learning more about the plan, and pledge our efforts to work with all stakeholders to ensure it fosters broadband deployment and adoption for all.
WISPA’s 1000 members are composed of fixed Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and the industry that supports fixed wireless broadband, including equipment suppliers, support services, and other components needed to run a successful business. Our members, and WISPs, in general, provide broadband access to millions of residential and business customers, often in exclusively rural areas.
