WISPA Encouraged by Senate Infrastructure Package
Washington, DC, August 2, 2021 – WISPA is encouraged by the U.S. Senate’s bi-partisan infrastructure package, which provides $65 billion in broadband deployment, affordability and middle-mile funding. This unparalleled commitment will help community-based and Tribal providers of broadband bring more connectivity to Americans who lack internet access; and enable those who cannot afford access to bridge that gap with government support.Importantly, the bill prioritizes funding to unserved areas of America in a manner that invites all technological solutions to the table – including fixed wireless, cable, mobile and fiber. We have long-advocated that many solutions and competing businesses models make lives better today and tomorrow. Though the bill’s eventual passage is not a “done deal,” by creating a framework that includes and harnesses the strength of community-based, Tribal providers and others in the marketplace, it further ensures the legislation can get all Americans online, no matter where they live or their ability to afford it.
WISPA pledges it support to ensure these principles remain intact as the infrastructure package moves to the President’s desk for his signature.
