WISPA Statement on House Comms Hearing

Washington, DC, May 24, 2022 – WISPA would like to thank the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology for its hearing today, and particularly its work to advance H.R. 7783, the “Extending America’s Spectrum Auction Leadership Act of 2022,” introduced by Rep. Davids (D-KS).  This legislation will unleash more spectrum for commercial use.  With spectrum being the lifeblood of our wireless-driven, broadband economy, having access to more of it will provide broad and equitable benefits for all Americans.

More specifically, H.R. 7783 extends the FCC’s general spectrum auction authority.  This will enable the FCC to continue parsing out spectrum so wireless broadband providers can meet ever-increasing consumer demand.  We plan to work with all stakeholders so that authority fosters meaningful access to spectrum for small, community-based  innovators – with county geographic license sizes, amounts of spectrum, flexible use, bidding credits, and other rules that truly invite them to the table.

WISPA stands ready to help move this legislation so it can soon be signed into law.
