WISPA Appreciates FCC Proposal on 12.2-12.7 GHz Band

The following statement may be attributed to Louis Peraertz, VP of Policy for WISPA – Broadband Without Boundaries:

Washington, DC, April 27, 2023 – Although we eagerly await the details in the 12.2 to 12.7 GHz item, WISPA appreciates FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel’s proposal to further investigate expanded terrestrial fixed use or unlicensed use in this 500-megahertz band.  Her announcement acknowledges that allocation of more spectrum for fixed wireless services should be an important goal of a national commercial spectrum allocation policy.  Given that little to no greenfield spectrum exists, 500 megahertz would provide more raw infrastructure to meet growing demand for wireless services.  As many of our members know – those who serve the toughest reaches of America – that spectrum will become a potent tool to bridge the digital divide.

WISPA welcomes the Chair’s prescient proposal and looks forward to working with all stakeholders to develop the band for better use.
